Call the Name

Call the Name is an effort to ensure that someone is always present to remember neighbors who are served through our city’s Indigent Burial Program at the Hills of Calvary Memorial Park. Call the Name is a volunteer effort to offer a ministry of presence and prayer at the burials of each person laid to rest through this program. Each person, even in death, is no longer alone but claimed with love as one of our neighbors and part of our community.

History

A group of Nashville clergy, led by Rev. Jay Voorhees of City Road Chapel United Methodist Church, banded together in November 2021 to represent the citizens of Nashville at their burials and ensure that they are remembered and that their names are spoken aloud one last time. When Rev. Voorhees moved to a new ministry role outside of Tennessee in 2024, we were honored to step into the gap and carry on the ministry.

Burials for Wednesday, November 12, 2025

We will be present as the following people are laid to rest:

- Mr. Jose Nataren (born September 11, 1982) at 9:00 A.M.

- Mr. Dean Levinsohn (born July 6, 1956) at 9:15 A.M.

- Mr. John F. Perry (born August 24, 1959) at 9:30 A.M.

All are interested to join us to be present and say a brief liturgy as these neighbors are taken to their resting place. Very often, the funeral homes arrive to the cemetery early, so we encourage all to be present by 8:45 A.M.

All burials are at Hills of Calvary Memorial Park located at 4411 Ashland City Highway, Nashville, TN, 37218. We request that participants arrive 10-15 minutes before the first burial.
